In his 10-year NBA career, Dwyane Wade has won three championships, a Finals MVP, and become synonymous with the Miami Heat in the way that Dirk Nowitzki symbolizes the Dallas Mavericks and Paul Pierce represents the Boston Celtics. Now, he’s adding another line to his impressive resume: smartphone app innovator.
“Dwyane Wade Driven,” launched in partnership with Driven Apps, is available in Apple’s iPhone App Store for $3.99. And rather than simply featuring highlight videos or shoe advertisements, the app aims to be of use to fans who want to be like him on the court.
“[Wade's] team was looking to create a mobile app based around what he’s good at, which is basketball,” Driven Apps co-founder Jake Edwards told For The Win. “What he does off the court is very much publicized on other social channels.”
The app features workout videos and basketball-related exercises and drills based on the fitness program Wade himself follows. “The great thing about this mobile app is that you can download a workout video or a basketball training program to your phone and take it to the gym or the basketball court,” Edwards said. “You don’t need to lug your computer around, and it’s not like you’re going out shopping for his shoes.”
Although the drills in Wade’s app are focused around basketball skill development, Driven has plans to partner with athletes in other sports for a line of other similar apps.
“We have a couple of big-name athletes in the pipeline that we’re really excited about,” Edwards said. “We’ll have releases coming later this summer, and our goal is to become the go-to publisher for mobile apps for sport-specific training. As part of doing that, we’re working with athletes that are the highest caliber, top of their class, and creating content around their training programs.”
“Dwyane Wade Driven” may not turn you into an NBA superstar overnight, but it looks to be a valuable training tool for people who want to take after Wade. It’s hard to do much better for an on-court role model.
