Tigers first baseman Victor Martinez executed a play against the Red Sox Sunday that wordsmiths might call redonkulous.
Martinez doesn’t get many reps at first base, since that’s Prince Fielder’s domain. That said, it’s hard to picture Prince sprawling in similar fashion on this play.
The Red Sox Jacoby Ellsbury’s hard grounder to Martinez’s left, was smothered by the first baseman who subsequently made a sprawling no-look flip before face-planting to get the out.
Also, stick with the play and notice Ellsbury giving Martinez a nice pat on the back after getting robbed of a single.
Perfect baseball play complete.
