One of the most stirring and most terrifying images from last month’s Boston Marathon bombing showed a man who had lost both his legs and the cowboy-hat wearing civilian who had rushed to his aide. The bombing victim, Jeff Bauman, ultimately identified the suspects in the case. The man who helped him, Carlos Arredondo, was a peace activist and the father of a marine killed in action in Iraq.

On Tuesday night at Fenway Park, the Red Sox invited Bauman and Arredondo to throw out ceremonial first pitches before the team’s matchup with the Phillies. After meeting with Pedro Martinez and getting a standing ovation from the Fenway crowd and both teams, the pair threw to Jarrod Saltalamacchia and David Ortiz.
